Re: Balsa alternative

After some research, I found out that these trees are indeed invasive in many parts of the world.
So I would be careful growing too much of it and I would keep an eye on the seeds.

Re: corn pollen

If you have ears, then it worked.
Thing is, Corn is about the most self pollinating plant I've ever seen. I would never be concerned you would have to do it by hand.
In fact, if you're seeing pollen everywhere, I can almost guarantee they are fine.

Re: Gala Apple

Yes, they are self pollinating. Jim what does the term "partial" mean in regards to pollination?
I have a Macintosh along with my Gala for pollination but it was understood when I planted them it was not necessary for the Gala.

Did you try the tomato leaf spray here?

Canon 5D Mark II

Just tested a friends Canon 5D mark II. Have to say was very impressed. Not impressed enough to ditch my Nikon D700 or D3x, but a very nice camera for a fairly low price. Still missing some key features that made me switch to Nikon, but Canon is coming along. For everyone that keeps emailing me, I s...

Re: Oregon Heirlooms

Well, it's not like I have been doing much contributing except seed archive and storage. Since I spend most of my summers in Alaska, it will continue to be that way for a while. So, I will take over management, but until I actually move my family to more land, it will be in trade and storage fashion...

Tomato leaf spray

Take one ounce of tomato leaves and add to one quart of water and blend thoroughly. Strain the resulting liquid and use to repel insects. This works well on white cabbage butterflies too.

Re: Glass greenhouse

I'm going to attempt a full glass greenhouse this fall in hopes of getting a better handle on maintaining the thing. My HFGH just isn't cutting it.
It's a total piece of junk and I'm fed up with it. It belongs in the dump.

Re: Harbor freight

OK, this HFGH has been a lesson in frustration. I am seriously considering building a real glass greenhouse with cement foundation.
Still looking for good plans. I may have to design my own.

Website down for a while

I must profusely apologize for the forum being offline for 6 weeks. What happened was, the portal went through an upgrade and I upgraded php to 3.07. The two were not compatible and it went down. Also, I had issues with the photo gallery. This is the price you pay for after market MODs. From now on,...
