Re: Better heat

By insulate, I think she means bubble wrap and tighten up all the holes.

Re: Growing for survival

Storing seeds would not be a problem since you would grow them out every year.
Also, during a major event, most people are not working so the whole family is home to run the farm.

All these scenarios are easily remedied.

Re: Meyer Lemon indoors

Potup, I have 3 lemon meyer that over-winter in the garage. I can't see any differencr with the garage except that the house would probably be even warmer. They get pulled out in the spring and spend the summer outside and come back in mid Nov.
No problems so far after 4 years.

Re: Poblano Peppers

I've eaten Pablano. To me, it's even milder than the Anaheim. Almost no heat IMHO.

Re: My tomatoes are sick

If the leaves are drying up and dying, then I agree with Tom.
If you're getting dark spots and rings, yellowing leaves, it could be late blight.
Also, what is the fert/water schedule. And what have the temps been like?
More info is needed.

Re: Cement and PH

OL...... I use concrete block all the time. I've never noticed a difference. I don't think it changes the ph as much as people think it does. There are other considerations, like drying out quicker and the beds warming up in hot weather. But the ph thing is interesting. I'm not saying it doesn't cha...

Re: biggest container problem

Water water water. That's my biggest problem. Don't be surprised if you have to water them every day. My container gardening is limited because of that single factor alone.
A lot of work.

Re: Cheaper to grow your own?

I think too many people have read the book "the $64 tomato". The problem is, the person spent over $16,000 to start his garden. That's utterly insane. Has anyone here spent THAT much on garden preparation? No. The book is foolishness. It does not portray real life. This is a problem when H...

Re: Competition

Good point about the counterfeits. I wonder of sales will also be down because people will be hoarding their money.
I was wondering if I should cut my production.

Competition

Is anyone concerned about competition this year because so many people will be looking for ways to supplement income? I fear the markets will be saturated.
Am I just paranoid?

Re: Container spring jumpstart

So i guess it boils down to picking early varieties and pushing them to even earlier harvest. I suppose it is possible then to expect 2 if I play my cards right!

Container spring jumpstart

Does anyone think there is an advantage to containers in regards to getting a jumpstart on spring? I'm saying does it actually make sense to start them early in containers and move them in at night. I'm trying to get a jump this year. Mostly because I want to try getting two crops of tomatoes and al...

Re: Brookhaven Cherry

Thanks for that info.
Boy, I feel special. I got them before anyone else.
When I visited Oregon Heirlooms I asked for a large cherry and he gave me about 10 of these seeds.
I knew they weren't commercially available though.
Thanks again

Re: Heating

Dave, also insulate the north wall. You don't need it if you have the GH situated correctly.
