Dave, of course you can grow them up, out, over, under.. any way you choose. Strawberries are very versatile. Any boxes or buckets will work. Just make sure they get plenty of sun. Bob
If your moisture level is high enough to cause that, I think you need to address that problem. I have always used clear packing tape, the kind that goes on a gun, to put up my bubble wrap and never have problems. Maybe you should try duct tape? Bob
Haven't thought of it really, but I suppose it would be the same. One thing though, humans are notorious for taking things into their bodies like drugs/antibiotics, allergy medicine, vitamins. Basically all kinds of other junk. I would still be cautious and never do it myself. But that's just me. Bob
Well with July just starting, I will be rolling out the hot weather items like cukes. They usually are my best after tomatoes. As for the tomatoes, the paste tomatoes have always done better than my slicers. Not sure why. Then in Sept the watermelons do the best. For packaged goods, my salsa has alw...
Dave, I have been using garlic spray on my plants for years. I will tell you, it works better than anything I've ever used. Your mileage my vary, but proof is in the pudding. It has never let me down. Also, I have used a homemade pepper spray on bugs very effectively. Bob
I suggest that swedish rhubarb has the exact same requirements as any other type. I have an old variety that has been growing since WWII. It's about 7' tall in the summer. Good luck with it. Bob
I've had minimal success with tomatoes indoors. There are a couple varieties good for greenhouse growing that might work indoors. Victory seeds in Oregon has a couple varieties. Now for other veggies, every year I grow lettuce, broccoli, and spinach. Also, there are dozens of herbs that do very well...
I would definitely turn the pile now and keep turning it all winter. I haven't had too many weed problems as long as I cook the pile as much as possible. Bob
What the heck? Horton, what do you mean garlic beds? Why do you still have garlic in your beds, are you in Australia? They should have been picked by now. When did you plant them? Are they new this fall?
WOW, a new post! I was monitoring when my email popped up. I guess everyone has been busy in the garden. To answer your question, I use a ventless heater and no covering. I would guess the covering would shade it and prevent light. My heater is propane not gas, so it's less expensive to run than ele...
It's still fairly hot here. I will be cleaning it out next month for a fall sowing of greens. This year I am going to try cherry tomatoes for the winter. Wish me luck Bob
I always know when to pick my pumpkins when the stem browns and dries put. I know then it's not sending nutrients to the plant anymore. As long as the pumpkin is not soft or spongy in any way, it's still good. Bob
