Re: corn pollen

If the husk isn't mature, I would suggest the pollen has not formed. You could try hand pollinating, but it may not work. At the end of the husk (the corn end) isn't fully working its way into the corn it isn't going to pollinate. JMO.

Re: strawberry runners

It's basically the same as you would any cuttings. You just dig down to where the root has taken place. You will see where the ball is starting to form. You pinch it off right where it starts to go back to the mother plant. Usually it is just one shoot to that plant. You pinch it off there and trans...

Re: Squash bugs & cucumber beetles

Soap spray. Man, I'm telling you.It always does the trick for me. Also one year I used floating row covers and I never saw one bug on my melons or cukes. They really work. It's a little late now and probably the only thing to do is pick the beetles off when you find them and spray water to eliminate...

Re: China Standards

Wow, that is shocking. I've seen organic foods from China at our local health food store.
I'm sickened by them lately.

Best camera for closeups

OK all you geeks. I want to buy a very good camera for carrying around to birthday parties, some great outdoor shots, flowers, etc. I don't want one those cheap little pocket cameras, but I don't want a huge expensive camera either. Any ideas for middle of the road? Also, it has to be able to take v...

Re: Homemade Fungus Spray

Is this a fungus spray or a pest spray? I ask because I've seen garlic used to kill bad insects but not usually for fungus.
If this works, I will be tickled pink.

Re: sod

It depends on if it decomposed or not.
I say it should be worked back in, but if the grass grew at all in it, I say wait.
The best thing I've found to do is cook it with plastic.
I've had many mystery weeds pop up after composting even.

Re: Hypertufa not drying

2 weeks is not long enough.
I read you have to wait at least 6.
There are instructions on how to do this here.

Camera or photo help.

Any chance of getting a photography or computer help as far as taking photos of plants and animals? Just a thought.
Tom, since you retired from that, I thought you might have some knowledge about stuff like photoshop and the like.

Re: Better heat

Use electric. If you insulate well, it will provide nice heat for a smal GH.
Make sure all the doors seal tight at night.
